DANCE FOR PARKINSON 2019

Within the framework of our educational and social activities lies Dance for Parkinson, a Community Dance project led by Madrid's professional dance association, APDCM, and Danza-T Dance Workers' Network. This artistic activity with social ends is carried out by dancers and uses dance as the main tool for improving the lives of people with neurological diseases.

The benefits of dance have been widely demonstrated and, for a person with Parkinson, it is very useful to learn to think like a dancer: balance, chain of movement and moving with spatial awareness. This project contributes to reinforcing the social profile of dance professionals and highlights the solidarity and social awareness of the CND-INAEM. It shows how dancers, as well as offering us entertainment, art and beauty, can also be valuable providers of social and individual welfare. This show of solidarity at the heart of our society, raises collective awareness of the value of helping the less fortunate by integrating and normalising the practice of the arts among vulnerable communities. It involves innovation, develops the potential of dancers, raises their awareness and strengthens their social commitment.

Dance for Parkinson's comprises an open dance session, led by dancers previously trained in Dance for Parkinson's, and is aimed at people with the disease, as well as their families and friends. It is also aimed at socially aware dance artists sensitive to the active practice of dance for people with varying capacities.

The sessions always follow a general structure involving a seated warm up, seated exercises, standing exercises and centre exercises. The exercises change from one session to the next, though the same materials will be reused depending on the needs of each group.

B-Sides Choreographic Workshop

2016 MADRID FULL INCLUSION PRIZE  (PLENA INCLUSIÓN)

“Greater Culture=Greater Inclusion”

CND B-Sides Plena Inclusión. Talleres coreográficos para discapacitados

The Compañía Nacional de Danza (CND), directed by José Carlos Martínez, was awarded the 2016 Madrid Full Inclusion prize for its support to disabled people and its use of art and dance as a key to integration.

Twelve people with either intellectual or development disabilities took part in B-Side. As a dance choreography workshop, B-Side is jointly organised by Plena Inclusión Madrid and the Compañía Nacional de Danza. In turn, that joint initiative falls within the project “Greater Culture=Greater Inclusion”; a programme in existence for some years now and run by those same partners, together with the support of Fundación Repsol. “Greater Culture=Greater Inclusion” is based on the solid conviction that culture, in its broadest sense and scope, is a key driver for social inclusion.

The dance workshops for groups with intellectual or development disabilities take place in September and October and are run by CND dancers Jesse Inglis,  Elisabet Biosca and Sara Lorés Ara. Most participants already have dancing knowledge or experience.

The CND has collaborated with the “Greater Culture=Greater Inclusion” programme since last year, when, on International Dance Day, it ran a very successful workshop for 300 people, some with disabilities, some without; all united in their passion for dance.

“Greater Culture=Greater Inclusion” is, of course, of great importance to the partners. But it is even more important to those disabled people who find it difficult to access formal training in disciplines such as dance.

The Madrid branch of Full Inclusion says there is still today a generalised belief that people with intellectual or development disabilities are not properly able to do certain things, like dance, for instance. This is just a myth, however, and we can often be very surprised. For that reason, the project was called B-Side, with a reference to the B side of the old vinyl records, often overlooked by many  but, for many, sometimes offering great works.

The workshops were held on 13 and 20 September and on 4 and 11 October at CND’s headquarters in Paseo de la Chopera 4.

THE DANCING MUSEUM. THE ART OF DANCE IN THE THYSSEN MUSEUM ON ITS 25TH ANNIVERSARY

Event Graphic Design

The Compañía Nacional de Danza rallied to the call to help the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum celebrate its 25th anniversary. On an open day celebrated 7 October 2017, the dancers interacted with this beautiful museum's art treasure, dancing in front of the amazing artworks.
The CND dancers carried out a series of installations and interactions with the art works and in different spaces throughout the Museum.
