Daan Vervoort Biography


CND Soloist Dancer. Daan VervoortBorn in Turnhout, Belgium, Daan Vervoort began his ballet training at the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp, under the teaching of Jan Nuyts, Kimmy Lauwens and Marinella Pañeda. During that period he performed choreographic pieces by Tom Bosma, Tamara Rosso, Ken Hioco, Ann Van den Broek, Nancy Rusek and Toru Shimazaki.
In 2004 he was selected for a dance project in New York to be directed by Chantal Yzermans and in 2005 he took part in a project called Katoennatie, choreographed by Sandra Dehertogh and Guy Pauwels. Vervoort was also invited to Japan to perform Solo, by Toru Shimazaki. In 2005 he was awarded the Gold Medal in the contemporary dance section at the International Dance Competition in Biarritz.
Throughout 2006 he took numerous classes with the Nederlands Dans Theater 1 and 2, working personally with Jirí Kylián. He later joined the Introdans Ensemble for Youth, under the direction of Roel Voorintholt.
In September 2007 Daan Vervoort joined the Compañía Nacional de Danza and in September 2013 was promoted as a soloist dancer under the artistic direction of José Carlos Martínez. Since joining this company he has danced leading roles in Kol Nidre and Gnawa, by Nacho Duato, Herman Schmerman, by William Forsythe, Minus 16, by Ohad Naharin or Casi-Casa, by Mats Ek. In 2015 he premieres the role of Don José in Carmen, by Johan Inger. He has alos worked with other prestigious choreographers such as Jirí Kylián, Itzik Galili, Goyo Montero, Alexander Ekman, Alejandro Cerrudo, among others. In 2013 he took part in the annual edition of the Paris Gala des Etoiles.

In May 2016 he danced, with Emilia Gisladöttir, the excerpt of the choreography Carmen in the Benois de la Danse ceremony in the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, receiving the award as the best 2016 choreography for Johan Inger.
