ANGELS MARGARIT BIOGRAPHY

CND ARCHIVE REPERTOIRE 90/11. GUEST CHOREOGRAPHERS

Àngels MargaritShe began her training in contemporary dance at the end of the 1970s in Barcelona, after which she continued studying in several places in Europe and in New York. For over 30 years she has been a dedicated dancer, choreographer and teacher.

From 1979 to 1984 she was part of the group Heura, pioneers and an inevitable reference point for contemporary dance in Spain. Within Heura she began to develop as a choreographer with TEMPS AL BIAIX (1981), her first contemporary dance performance devised as a single piece. After five years with this group she decided to embark on a project of her own and created MUDANCES (1985), a piece for five ballerinas that would also give her company its name.

Since then she has developed a very personal creative style, grounded on the search for a language and poetics of her own and the fascination for space, an essential item in her work, which includes creations for the stage, urban settings, improvisations, video dance, installations and investigations with new technologies. From the start she has enjoyed an important projection abroad, becoming a reference for dance in Spain.

She has been distinguished with a number of national and international awards including the Grand Prix du Concours Chorégraphique de Bagnolet (France, 1988), the Premi Nacional de danza de Catalunya (1986, 1991, 1999), the Premi Ciutat de Barcelona d'Arts Escèniques (1993), among others.

As a teacher she regularly conducts courses, ateliers and teaches repertoire at dance schools in a number of countries. She has collaborated in several teaching programs for the Centro Coreográfico Gallego (2008), Conservatorio Superior de Danza (CSD) of the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona, which she directed in the 2006/07 season. As a curator, in 2003 she was behind the conception of Tensdanza, an international dance festival in Terrassa (Barcelona). In 2010 she won the NATIONAL DANCE AWARD of the Spanish Ministry of Culture.

She is currently working on a new project in collaboration with the Swiss dancer and choreographer Thomas Hauert.
