Jesús Florencio Biography

  • Retrato Jesús FlorencioBorn in Barcelona, he started his dance Studies with Joan Magriña, Vicente Escudero, José de la Vega and Consuelo Sánchez. He joined the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, training under José María Escudero, Karemia Moreno, Emma Maleras, Rosario Contreras and Pilar Cambra.
    His classical-dance teachers included Aurora Bosch, Mirta Plá, Aurora Pons, Carmina Ocaña, Luis Fuentes and Luc Boy while his Spanish-dance teachers included Victoria Eugenia, María Magdalena, Paco Romero, Eloy Pericet and Pedro Azorín. In contemporary dance he has worked under Ramón Oller, Lidia Azzopardi and Cesc Gelabert, among others. He has also studied with Fernando Bujones, Azari Plisetsky, Peter Schaufus and María de Ávila.
    In 1985, María de Ávila invited him to join the Ballet Nacional de España, where he danced the great creations of Mariemma, Pilar López, Antonio Ruiz, Antonio Gades, José Granero, Pedro Azorín, José Antonio, Angel Pericet and Alberto Lorca, among others. At the same time, he also worked with Miguel Narros, Alfredo Mañas, Adolfo Marsillach, Luis Olmos, Emilio Sagi and La Fura dels Baus.
    In 2007, he abandoned stage performance and, at Nacho Duato’s request, he joined the Compañía Nacional de Danza, working alongside Tony Fabre in CND2.
    In September 2011, and at Carlos Martínez’s request, he took his place as CND artistic coordinator.
    In 2014, he returned to the stage to interpret Sancho Panza in Jose Carlos Martinez’s Don Quixote.
    He has shared the stage with names such as Maya Plisetskaya, Carla Fracci, Alicia Alonso, Antonio Gades, Vladimir Vassiliev, Trinidad Sevillano, Arantxa Argüelles, Julio Bocca, Joaquín Cortés, Antonio Canales, Manuela Vargas, Merche Esmeralda, Nacho Duato and Lola Greco, among many others.
