Álvaro was born in Seville, where he graduated from the Conservatorio Profesional de Danza. He continued his training in London, where he received a scholarship to take his final year at the London Studio Centre, under the direction of Margaret Barbieri.
He began dancing professionally at the Joven Ballet de Málaga and, shortly after, at the Corella Ballet, under the direction of Ángel Corella. In 2011, he joined the Sarasota Ballet, under the direction of Iain Webb.
In September 2012, under the artistic direction of José Carlos Martínez, Álvaro joined the Compañía Nacional de Danza where he currently remains under the direction of Muriel Romero.
With the CND he has been part of the cast of Carmen by Johan Inger, Giselle and A tu vera by Joaquín De Luz, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Sonatas by José Carlos Martínez, Por vos muero and Remansos by Nacho Duato, Pulcinella by Blanca Li, Gods and Dogs by Jiří Kylián, Hikarizatto by Itzik Galili, Les noces by Andonis Foniadakis, In Paradisum by Antonio Ruz and La Sylphide by August Bournonville.
