CND welcomes José Carlos Blanco as guest maestro

José Carlos Blanco is a guest teacher at the headquarters of the Compañía Nacional de Danza. The dancer and repetitive assistant from Madrid has been reunited these days with what was his company for nine seasons. We talked to him to tell us about his projects and the work he will do in the three weeks he will be at our headquarters as guest teacher.

How do you feel?
JCBM.-Happy to meet again with dancers with whom I shared some years in the company and to be able to work with those who are currently part of this wonderful company.

How did you find the company?
JCBM.- The company is very changed, with performers eager to work on the new project. In short, there is a very good working atmosphere.

What aspects are you going to work on the most in these three weeks?
JCBM.- I teach the daily class to help the dancers to be in shape and share with them everything I have learned in my career.


What projects are you looking forward to in the coming months?

JCBM.- In addition to the projects with the three choreographers I usually collaborate with, I continue to work as Artistic Director of the Adam International Campus and as artistic coordinator of the Somos Arte Gala

José Carlos Blanco studied dance at the school of Víctor Ullate. At the age of sixteen he joined the Victor Ullate Company where he was appointed first dancer at the age of twenty. He joined the National Dance Company, under the direction of Nacho Duato in 2001 where he remained until 2009. During these nine years, he worked with great choreographers such as W. Forsythe, J. Kylian, M. Ek, O. Naharin, J. Godani, O. Anderson and Nacho Duato. Anderson and Nacho Duato premiering Örjan Andersson’s Cuarteto nº8 and Jacopo Godani’s Cult Race (2001), Nacho Duato’s L’Homme and Ohad Naharin’s Perpetuum (2003), Nacho Duato’s Herrumbre (2004), Mats Ek’s Aluminio, Nacho Duato’s Diecisiete and Jacopo Godani’s Prototype Hero (2005), Alas (Wings) and Gilded Goldbergs by Nacho Duato (2006), De paso by Gentian Doda, O Domina Nostra by Nacho Duato and Quintett by William Forsythe in collaboration with Dana Caspersen, Stephen Galloway, Jacopo Godani, Thomas Mcmanus and Jone San Martín (2008).

He has also been choreographic assistant in the works Demodé by Iván Pérez and Unsound by Juanjo Arqués and Heidi Vierthaler premiered in 2012 by the Compañía Nacional de Danza.

He is currently an international freelance teacher in renowned companies and since 2017 he works as assistant to Juanjo Arqués and collaborates as rehearsal assistant to Nacho Duato. In 2022 he starts collaborating with choreographer William Forsythe as stager.
