María Estuardo (A journey between love and death)

José Granero

María Estuardo is the first choreography conceived by José Granero for the Ballet del Teatro Lírico Nacional (National Lyric Theater Ballet). At the request of Maya Plisétskaya, José Granero creates a work in which his personal style merges with the musical atmosphere of Emilio de Diego y Víctor M. Martín Rubio and the scenic atmosphere of Hugo de Ana. Argumentatively, María Estuardo starts from the encounter and, in a certain way, metamorphosis of Maya Plisétskaya with the symbol and the sensed presence of the Scottish queen at the end of her stay in France and her imminent return to Scotland.

  • World premiere by Compañía Nacional de Danza: (Ballet del Teatro Lírico Nacional) at Teatro de la Zarzuela, Madrid (Spain), November 19th 1988
