Hikarizatto
“Hikarizatto is a modern piece that will energize your spirit,” Hikarizatto is a visually stunning ballet that features rhythmic drumming and Galili’s trademark off-balance, hyper-kinetic movement.
- World premiere by: the Stuttgart Ballet (Germany), April 8th 2004
- Premiere by Compañía Nacional de Danza: at Teatro de la Zarzuela de Madrid (Spain), May 27th 2018
Hikarizatto means “crowded light.” Lit from directly above, the dancers become anonymous creatures, united in some instinctive, close-packed way, like a school of fish or a flock of birds.
The Asian-flavoured Hikarizatto, the crowd favourite. Itzik Galili’s bold ensemble piece for 20 dancers fulfils the “extreme ballet” promise. Accompanied by thunderous taiko-style drumming as well as bells, cymbals and clacking sticks, the piece has the feel of a mysterious, timeless ritual.
