Le Jeune Homme et la Mort (The Young Man and Death) is a ballet in two scenes for a couple of dancers created by choreographer Roland Petit for the Ballets des Champs Élysées. On the music of Bach's Pasacalle in C minor orchestrated by Respighi, with a libretto by Jean Cocteau and scenery by Georges Wakhevich, it premiered at the Théâtre des Champs Élysées in Paris on June 25, 1946. For its modernity, its violence and its intensity, Roland Petit's ballet has marked the history of dance.
