Daan Vervoort

Soloist dancer

Born in Turnhout (Belgium), Daan began his ballet studies at the Royal Ballet School in Antwerp, with Jan Nuyts, Kimmy Lauwens and Marinella Pañeda as teachers. During these years he danced choreographies by Tom Bosma, Tamara Rosso, Ken Hioco, Ann Van den Broek, Nancy Rusek and Toru Shimazaki.

In 2004 he was selected for a dance project by Chantal Yzermans in New York and in 2005 he participated in the Katoennatie project with choreography by Sandra Dehertogh and Guy Pauwels. He was also invited to Japan to dance Solo, by Toru Shimazaki. In 2005 he obtained the gold medal for contemporary dance at the International Dance Competition in Biarritz. In 2006 he joined Introdans Ensemble for Youth, under the direction of Roel Voorintholt.

In September 2007 he joined the Compañía Nacional de Danza Danza where, by 2013, he had risen to the rank of Soloist. Since joining the CND he has danced leading roles in Kol Nidre and Gnawa by Nacho Duato, Herman Schmerman by William Forsythe, Minus 16 by Ohad Naharin or Casi-Casa by Mats Ek. In 2015 he premiered the role of Don José in Carmen, by Johan Inger. He has also worked with other prestigious choreographers such as Jirí Kylián, Itzik Galili, Goyo Montero, Alexander Ekman, Alejandro Cerrudo, among others. In 2013 he participated in the Star Gala in Paris. In May 2016, together with Emilia Gisladottir, he performed Johan Inger’s Carmen as a choreographic candidacy at the Benois de la Danse Gala at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, resulting in Inger winning the coveted award for best choreography that year.
