LE CORSAIRE PAS DE DEUX. Marius Petipa 1856
- Choreography: Marius Petipa
- Music: Riccardo Drigo
- Costumes: Carmen Granell
- Le Corsaire was premiered at l’Opéra de Paris in 1856 with Joseph Mazilier’s choreography, inspired by Lord Byron’s poem.
- Premiere by Ballet Nacional de España Clásico under María de Ávila’s direction.
Although Le Corsaire’s original music score is by Adolphe Adam, the present pas de deux, added by Marius Petipa in 1899, uses Riccardo Drigo’s music. In 1868, Marius Petipa and Jules Perrot revived the ballet for the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow and it survives as the one we know today.
