Jean
Philippe Dury

Jean Philippe Dury was born
in Paris in 1978, where he
began his ballet studies at
the age of six. At the age
of eleven he joined the L’Opéra
de Paris Dance School,
becoming a full member of
the company eight years later
in the Corps de Danse category,
performing in a number of
repertory productions such
as Swan Lake, Raymonda,
Don Quijote, Sleeping Beauty and
others. Jean Philippe has
also worked with contemporary
choreographers such as Lionel
Hoche, Jean-Claude Gallotta,
Laura Scozzi, Maurice Béjart,
Pina Bausch, Mats Ek, William
Forsythe and Jirí Kylián.
In 1998 he won first prize
for artistic and contemporary
dance at the Saint Petersburg
Awards whilst in 2001,
he was awarded first prize
at the Firenze & Danza dance
awards in Florence, as
well as at the Grand Prix
de la República de
Italia.
During
the 2003-04 season L’Opéra
de Paris granted him
a sabbatical year during
which he danced for the Les
Ballets de Monte Carlo. He
returned to Paris, rejoining L’Opéra under
the Coryphée category.
Dury
has also choreographed his
own work: Fado (1999),
Vidalita (2001), Háblame
(2003) and Les Jardins du
Silence (2006), all
of which were premiered
at the L’Amphithéâtre
Bastille at l’Opéra
de Paris during their Danseurs-Chorégraphes
season. In September
2007 he joined the Compañía
Nacional de Danza, in 2008 went away and returned in september 2009.
